Kristen Pozen is Named Recipient of the First Justin Wilson Memorial Dyslexia Teacher Training Scholarship!
Picture

We are so excited to announce the recipient of the inaugural Justin Wilson Memorial Dyslexia Teacher Training Scholarship! Congratulations to Kristen Pozen for being the first recipient of this very special training scholarship.

Kristen says, "I am an educator with over 20 years experience as a Teacher and School Social Worker. I recently started a new role as a Reading Interventionist for grades kindergarten through second in Crown Point, Indiana. I am also the mother of a newly diagnosed dyslexic fifth-grader. This school year my daughter is receiving Orton-Gillingham’s multi-sensory reading intervention. It has been exciting to see her reading scores improve and her confidence grow. In a recent conversation about school, my daughter described her current reading intervention as being magical. “Mommy, did you know that OG is re-training my brain? It’s like magic!” I am honored to receive this generous scholarship. I am looking forward to using this magical reading intervention training with my own reading RTI students. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity, Driving for Dyslexia!"

Kristen will train virtually with the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana, starting in January.  We know she will change many lives with her new skills!

We have a very special message from the family of Justin Wilson, for whom the scholarship is named:

"Kristen,
I am very happy to write this and congratulate you for winning the Justin Wilson Memorial Scholarship. It is a wonderful opportunity for you to help improve the lives of children that suffer from dyslexia.

I am so proud and truly thankful for the Cox family, the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana, and all the generous people who helped create this opportunity and making it all possible. Without all their hard work, this would not be happening. I know this scholarship will eventually help the lives of so many families.

I Just want to say a huge thank you from myself and our family for keeping JW in your hearts. Even with this disability, he wanted the world to know that you should never give up on your dreams. Dyslexia should never stop anyone.

Congratulations Kristen and good luck! I know you will do wonderful things, helping so many people improve their lives with this scholarship, and make sure no one gives up on achieving their goals because of dyslexia.

Much love, Julia Wilson"

We are honored to carry on Justin's mission of helping kids with Dyslexia, and look forward to presenting many more of these scholarships! Thank you to our donors and partners for helping make this possible!

Driving for Dyslexia was founded to help raise awareness and money to help children with Dyslexia learn to read and realize their true potential.
1 in 5 people has Dyslexia, and Dyslexia is the most common learning disability, yet most schools do not teach reading in the way children with Dyslexia learn to read. At Driving for Dyslexia, we believe that ALL children should have the ability to learn to read, not only the ones whose parents can pay for proper instruction outside of school. Through no fault of their own, most teachers are not trained in the proper method of teaching dyslexic children to read. We believe that we will reach the greatest number of children by funding training for teachers and tutors in a direct, explicit, multi-sensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, prescriptive approach to literacy education, who will then be able to help countless children every day in their professional lives. We believe that all children with Dyslexia can learn to read, with early identification and proper intervention, and it is our mission for all people with Dyslexia to believe, as Elliot does, "Dyslexia doesn't stop me."
